Sullivan striker transfer update
Classic Sully smoke and mirrors.

C&P
Finally, just to update you all on transfers, we may look to bring another forward in. We’re working on a very complicated deal at the moment, which may or may not come off, so we will have to see how that progresses.

We have always said we didn’t plan to do any business in this window so if nothing more materialises we will be more than happy with our squad.

Can't say i'll be too bothered if we don't bring another striker in.

Probably more a case of Valencia showing he can score some goals so thinks he can get away with not spending anymore cash this window.

Also can't help but think Zarate was sold as we'd done our wage limit, partocularly bringing Byram in.

All in all if Zarate isn't playing it's £40k a week saved I guess, can't imagine Byram is on huge wages.

All we need now is rid of O'Brien and we've managed to get rid of nearly all the dead wood left over from the Big sam era.

Re: Sullivan striker transfer update
If we can bring another striker in why not? Jenkinson voss is 30k extra every time he plays so just don't play him and that covers byrams wages, freeing up the Zarate money to pay (I hope) yilmaz with a permanent deal in the summer lined up.

Re: Sullivan striker transfer update
Even outsiders talk about our 'injury curse'. I'd love another striker at the club- particularly an experienced one that Slav has come across on his travels.

We've got a pair of very good strikers who seem to regularly explode (in a bad way) and, God forbid, an injury to Valencia (which never seems THAT far-fetched) and we're left with Jela or a winger filling in.

I'm just a supporter though so I'll always want another player in.

He costs an extra 30k whenever he plays?

On top of his weekly, or that IS his weekly?

Well so it says here

Byram reportedly signed for 30k a week so if we don't play jenkinson at all we are flat with FFP and may be able to encourage them to take him back.

Re: Sullivan striker transfer update
Matt Jarvis was sold a few weeks ago so that's about another £40k per week!

Carroll and Sakho are back in a fortnight, if Jelly stays then I think we should wait until the summer.

I don't like this January window.

DP

He was already off the wage bill

Ahh righty ho, I hadn't seen that thread. I guess it's quite fortuitous then, that Byram got his chance so early, and also that he absolutely made the most of it.

Jenkinson should now be a rotation type player, when Byram needs a rest, or against specific opposition as required (or who we can get away with him against when we want Byram to have a spell).

Nagel 10:46 Mon Jan 25
Re: Sullivan striker transfer update
Re Jenkinson, the £30k per appearance is paid to Arsenal, so nothing to do with wages and FFP.

I think I'd rather we got a striker in on loan rather than buy someone as a stopgap who's stuck on the wage bill for 2-3 years and barely gets a game. We've already got that in Jelavic (and Carroll really). If we're aiming to get a top quality £20m striker in the summer there's little point buying a lesser player now.

I would 100% get a striker in we have a huge chance this season

Sakho and Carroll wont stay fit

Re: Sullivan striker transfer update
Anybody we sign can't play against the bin dippers and if Sakho and Carroll Ard back in two weeks what's the point we've only got to get through the villa game with Valencia on his own
Unless somebody top drawer comes available I'd stick with what we've got or we'll just end up with another jelavic

Mr John 3:26 Mon Jan 25
Re: Sullivan striker transfer update
I can't really see the point of bringing in another striker. As far as I can see we often play with just one out-and-out striker, and with Carroll, Sakho, Valencia and Jelavic, surely we have enough cover?

whufcroe 3:33 Mon Jan 25
Re: Sullivan striker transfer update
People bang on about 1st choice strikers but do we really have one?

Valencia has taken his chance playing in the middle and scored more now than Sakho and Carroll so why would either of those walk back into the team when fit?

"Anybody we sign can't play against the bin dippers"

Why is that? Not registered in time of something?

Re: Sullivan striker transfer update
If we are confident that either Sakho or Carroll will stay fit for the whole of the remainder of the season then I would say we are ok as we are.

If there are any doubts at all then I think we should be looking to get a loan in that's better than Jelavic.

Although Enner's recent form is something that I didn't see coming and for me he stays in the team if he continues scoring even if Sakho and Carroll are back in early Feb.

We are in great position to secure top 6 and it would be a shame to fall short because we run out of fire power up front.

chim chim cha boo 3:53 Mon Jan 25
Re: Sullivan striker transfer update
I'm not confident that Sakho, Carroll OR Enner can stay fit until the end of the season.

Sure it's nice that we don't have to panic-buy players in this window like Allardyce does and that surely gives us a bit of leverage with players who are wanting to leave their current club?

Our current position in the league goes for us, the move to the new stadium goes for us and so does the chance to get on the end of a ball provided by one of the finest mid-fielders in the world.

I can't see the point of letting Zarate go if you don't have someone to replace him with. I actually thought Mauro was a good player who gave us something a bit different. Okay he had a tendency to overplay but who doesn't like to see a West Ham player running through a defence?

I think this is a good time to do a bit of business and really put a mark down that we're not just trying to finish mid-table.

You could say Byram is partly a replacement for Zarate - he can play on the wing.

Lee Trundle 6:26 Mon Jan 25
Re: Sullivan striker transfer update
I'd be extremely surprised to see Bryam play 1 minute on the wing for us, this season.

He'll be nailing down that right back position.
